IYCA SOLO OPPORTUNITIES.

THE MISSION.
Since 2004, IYJA and IYCA’s mission has been to offer solo “concerto” opportunities to its students. Unlike other youth orchestras which only feature one soloist the entire year, IYCA features between fifteen to twenty soloists per season. In the past, IYJA and IYCA has performed concerti for violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, and piano. Soloists have been featured in concerts locally to the international stages of Korea and China, with live radio and television broadcasts, often conductorless.

WHAT’S NEW?
In 2009-2010, IYCA and OCA will focus on piano, wind, and cello soloists, both in
recordings as well as in concert. Selection for soloists in 09-10 will be through competitions from within the orchestra.

THE NEED.
Playing solo concertos is extremely important to a young artist especially in their formative years. These opportunities are not offered for young musicians in most youth orchestras and is extremely valuable to a musician’s growth.

THE NEW RULES.
Starting in 2009-2010, soloists for IYJA and IYCA will be selected through a “showcase talent competition.” No longer will soloists be chosen on invite.

Every musician who wishes to perform a solo with orchestra
must participate in this competition.

Competitions are held before each concert and are posted under the EVENTS page. Please check here for times, dates, and register. If you miss the competition for any reason, you’ll need to wait until the next concert for the next opportunity.

Only members of IYJA and IYCA are eligible for solo opportunities for concerts each season.

IYCA will provide and purchase orchestra parts and scores.

There is no limit to how many times you can play your concerto throughout the year or on tour. IYCA will be fair and give every member equal opportunities to perform.

If selected, each soloist is required to sell 5 tickets at the concert they perform in.
Each ticket is $10.

Conditions.
1. Only members of IYJA and IYCA are eligible for solo opportunities for any concert each season.

2. IYCA will provide and purchase orchestra parts and scores. If the parts are rare and difficult to locate, we ask that the student shares the cost of the music with IYCA.

3. Once you have completed this form, you MUST audition for our IYCA conductors prior to the first rehearsal of your work. There are no competitions to play solos, but we will need to hear you play by yourself. We can do this at the conclusion of rehearsa. You must indicate the date that you are ready to “audition” your concerto. After your audition, we will purchase the music and distribute it for the next rehearsal.

4. There is no limit to how many times you can play your concerto throughout the year or on tour. IYCA will be fair and give every member equal opportunities to perform.
